AIRED MARCH 17, 2016— 10 PM

  • KOMU hosted a republican gubernatorial debate, where four candidates squared off at the Missouri Theatre. The 10 PM show gave a recap of the debate and had reporters live at the theatre.

  • Challenges:

    • There was an abundance of sound bites to sort through in order to highlight the debate's focal points

    • On top of putting my show together, I wrote stories and sorted through social media reactions to add into my show.

    • It was also challenging to fit in local content

  • Critique:

    • Very few technical errors, staff worked hard to produce and front stories

    • This was a fast-paced, high-content filled news day

    • Great teamwork in the newsroom and on the digital producing team's behalf

AIRED FEBRUARY 25, 2016— 10 PM

  • Coverage of Melissa Click's (MU assistant professor) dismissal from the university

  • Challenges:

    • I had to strategically fit in local news, a Target 8 investigative piece and national news while adequately covering Click's dismissal

    • Mixing up the elements at the top of the show

  • Critique:

    • Very few technical errors, staff worked hard to produce and front stories

    • At this point, I was new at producing, so I got great experience producing breaking news

AIRED FEBRUARY 24, 2016— 5 PM

  • KOMU 8 attended Bernie Sander's rally in Kansas City, MO and got a one-on-one interview with the presidential candidate

  • Challenges:

    • There was a miscommunication between live reporters and producers. They didn't clarify what sound bite they wanted to use, so producers had to search and find it in addition to stacking and writing the show.

  • Critique:

    • Better communication between reporters and producers

    • Staff worked hard to produce and front stories
